Cat
This is a picture of a model which is made up of cardboard and wood. When the cam rotates, the cat will move its head forward. The side of the box is circular instead of the usual rectangular shape. It is much more better as there are no sharp adges.




Dinosaur
This is a model of a dinosaur cam toy. Two thin wires of different length are attached to the cam and the other end to the legs of the dinosaur. When the cam rotates, the wire will rotates and causes the legs of the dinosaur to move. It will appear as if the dinosaur is walking.




Flying Pig
This is a picture of a pig flying opperated by normal cams.When the handle is being turned, the cam will rotate causing the follower to move. The pig on the follower will move up and down. Thin wire attach to the wings and the follower will cause the wings to flip. It will looks like the pig is flying.

Toy Dog



This toy operates on mechanisms. The gears in it will rotate when the switch is turned on causing the dog to move.

Duckling



When someone holds the other end of the string, the duckling's wings will move up and down.

Underside of the duckling



This is the underside of the duckling's body. The eccentric cams under the wings will move when the the wheels rotate. It will hit the wings and causes the wings to move up and down.

Bees



The bees will appear to be flying when the toy is rotating.

Model of my project
This is the model of my project which I took about 2 hours to complete. I used plastic boards and straws to make. I am going to make the real model using wood and acrylic in a few weeks time.

Bowl




Today I am going to show you a bowl that I had made during lessons a few weeks ago. I used scroll saw to saw the acrylic, after that I used flat file to file. After filing, I used a piece of damp wet-and-dry paper to smoothen the edges. I apply the brasso, metal polish, to the sides of the acrylic. I placed the acrylic into the oven and heat it, after 10 minutes, my acrylic became soft and I placed it in the mould. It was very hot when I took it out with a pair of gloves. After placing my bowl into the sink and wash with soap, it is ready.

Flat Plate Cam



Today I am going to introduced a new type of cam called the flat plate cam. The follower will moves up and down matching the shape of the cam when the profile moves.The flat plate cam will reverse to the opposite direction when it reaches the end.

I used flat cam to do my cam toy. It will be easily to cut and it can balance well.
